Table calculations can be used as powerful
filters that operate within Tableau to limit the data that appears in a
visualization, without affecting the data that is queried from a data source.
This is because table calculations are executed solely within the visual aspect
of a sheet, and do not affect the underlying query that is sent back to the
database.
